COVID-19 Cases Significantly Dropped

The daily number of Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Prague and the Czech Republic has fallen significantly in the past two months. Life getting slowly back to normal, and gradually all restrictions are much more relaxed. About 500 to 1000 new Covid-19 cases are reported daily while fast vaccination is in progress and numbers are decreasing. There are still not many flights to Prague, but airlines are announcing adding back flights to Prague.

Shops, museums, galleries, exhibitions, castles and heritage sites in Prague have opened to anyone once again. And outdoor areas at pubs, cafés and restaurants are open but with certain restrictions.

Accommodation facilities can accommodate guests who show either a negative test for coronavirus, a vaccination certificate, or a document on having undergone Covid-19. Most hotels also perform antigen test on the spots.

Respirators are compulsory in shops and shopping centres, services, on all forms of public transport, at public transport stops, on platforms and in waiting rooms, at airports, in health and social service facilities, inside official buildings, at post offices, in pharmacies, cars, and in a workplace.

Face masks are obligatory outdoors only if two and more people meet with shorter than a two-meter distance unless they are from the same household.

Who Can Travel to Prague, Czech Republic?

As of 15th May 2021, the updated Ministry of Health Protective measure regarding entry to the Czech Republic comes into force.

Vaccinated foreign nationals of the following countries are permitted to enter the Czech Republic for tourist visits without any restrictions: Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Israel, Australia, Thailand, New Zealand, Singapore and South Korea.

From 21 June 2021, residents from all over the European Union and Serbia will be allowed to enter the Czech Republic without restrictions if they meet the rules for Covid-19 vaccination, testing, or antibodies (past coronavirus infection provides some immunity for at least five months).

Soon, European covid passports could simplify travel significantly. The common framework for issuing and verifying vaccination, testing, and disease certification, called the Digital Green Certificate, will be issued directly by the EU through effective regulation. The introduction of a European document to facilitate travel between the Member States is expected from the beginning of July 2021.

At the moment, others foreign nationals might only visit the Czech Republic if their trip is ESSENTIAL, but it is expected that this will change soon (without the need to provide the reason for travel). More information about travelling for tourism are found here. If you are arriving by plane, you must tell what the purpose of your journey is. However, if you are arriving by road and rail, there are generally no border checks. Tourists coming by these means can make their mind up how essential their trip is.

Depending on the citizenship and country from where travellers arriving, you are allowed to enter the Czech Republic under specific restrictions. The Czech government uses a “traffic lights” system where countries are ranked based on their current level of Covid-19 risk.  Five categories correspond to the risk factor: Green Countries, Orange Countries, Red Countries, Dark Red Countries, Extreme Risk Countries. Czech nationals are permitted to travel abroad and re-enter the Czech Republic except for travel to the Extreme Risk Countries.
