Kačina Castle Throws Open Its Doors

On Saturday, April 12, 2025, Kačina Castle will participate in the event called Kačina Wide Open as part of the national initiative Gates of Monuments Wide Open. This significant cultural and historical occasion will showcase unique tours, exhibitions, and concerts at selected historical sites across the weekend in April. At the magnificent Kačina Castle, the Kačina Wide Open program will present history enthusiasts with unusual guided tours led by historians! These special tours will be available at 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. and can be booked online at www.nzm.cz/.
This year’s tours, focused on military history, will be conducted by archivist Helena Hloušková and historian Miloš Hořejš. Participants will explore parts of the castle that are not typically shown to the public during regular tours. Helena Hloušková will delve into the castle’s role during the year 1866 and the Prusso-Austrian War. What was the experience of the Chotek family during this time, and which family members served in the Habsburg army? Meanwhile, Miloš Hořejš will take attendees back to World War I, highlighting the experiences of the castle’s last owner, Count Quid Thun-Hohenstein, and his brother Emerich. Visitors will have the chance to discover evidence of the Red Army in the castle’s cellar, and historical war maps will be on display in the library. The castle also has stories from World War II. What occurred here during that era? Finally, you’ll get to see the location where Karel Rudolf Chotek is rumored to have hidden his treasure.
