Prague’s Iconic Towers, Fresh Venues, and Themed Strolls

The first of April marks the beginning of a fresh tourist season in Prague, and the city is all set to welcome visitors from both within the country and around the globe. As in previous years, Prague City Tourism (previously known as the Prague Information Service) aims to attract a more affluent crowd of tourists who have a genuine interest in exploring the city’s offerings. They are also focusing on local guests, who represent a steady 20% of all arrivals.
This year, there are plans for some minor renovations and updates at various landmarks managed by Prague City Tourism. This includes work on the exterior of the entrance and staircase at the St. Nicholas City Bell Tower, along with preparations for an extensive renovation of the Powder Tower. Moreover, there will be some exciting changes to the opening hours of Prague’s towers – starting in April 2025, they will remain open longer. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the Powder Tower, as well as the towers of the Charles Bridge – both the Malostranská and Staroměstská towers, the Petřín Lookout Tower, and the Novomlýnská water tower during the evening hours. Note that opening times may vary for each tower, so for specific details, please visit prague.eu/cs/prazske-veze/.
A New Wallpaper Room and Special Tours
Prague City Tourism will also unveil new areas within iconic landmarks this year. The St. Nicholas City Bell Tower will feature a newly renovated wallpaper room, which has been revitalized for visitor experiences. This room was historically used as the living space for the assistant announcer, providing a rare glimpse into this style of accommodation that remains unmatched anywhere else in Bohemia. This wallpapered room has never been open to the public before, making it a hidden gem worth visiting.
There’s also something fresh for this season: the introduction of Pragensia viva guide services. These services will offer special walking tours designed for individuals with reduced mobility, allowing them to enjoy unique walks through Prague. New thematic tours will explore the historic Jewish Town or delve into the city’s culinary scene. Additionally, there will be seasonal tours focusing on the hidden gems associated with the goddess Vesna, especially during spring. Expert guides will lead you to fascinating locations that often go unnoticed while uncovering their intriguing stories. During the Easter season, you can join them on a special journey called The Way of the Cross to Petřín. Petřín Hill is recognized for its natural beauty, including the rare almond trees that bloom there.
Lastly, the company is preparing to commemorate the end of World War II and the Prague Uprising with a series of lectures and specialized walking tours.
