Discover the magic of folk traditions! The National Museum in Nature invites you to an Easter programme

Easter in Zubrnice

ZubrniceEaster in Zubrnice, an event held at the Zubrnice Open Air Museum, will take place on 12 and 13 April 2025. Throughout these two days, visitors will have the opportunity to appreciate the beauty and skill of decorated eggs using various techniques such as batik, wire and scratching. There will also be a demonstration of egg decorating using embossing techniques. The smell of cake and spring stuffing will happily greet all guests who come from afar. Young and old visitors alike will find Adele’s backyard full of spring chicks to pet and learn from. For adult visitors, there will be a number of stalls with handmade products and refreshments.

On Saturday, the Dykyta folklore ensemble from Krásná Lípa will perform, singing, dancing and carrying out the Morana. Mr Šedoplášt’s TyJátr Theatre will welcome the audience with a performance called “Dráček”. On Sunday, the folklore ensemble Krušnohor will perform and children can look forward to the fairy tales “The Gingerbread House” and “Kašpárek a písničky” performed by the Puppet Theatre Krajánek. The museum will be open for visitors during this programme from 9.00 to 16.00.

Easter and spring customs at Veselý Kopec

The four-day Easter cycle of events, which will take place from 18 to 21 April, will enrich the area of Veselý Kopec, which is part of the Museum of Nature in Vysočina. This Easter programme also marks the beginning of the visitor season. The programme focuses on traditions and customs associated with Easter. From Good Friday until Easter Monday, visitors will have the opportunity to wander through the entire area, which will be complemented by demonstrations of making pom poms, decorating Easter eggs and making other traditional items such as brooms or baskets.

velikonoce veselý kopecFolk craftsmen will also come to Veselý Kopec to not only demonstrate their skills but also offer their products for sale. Visitors will learn more about the pre-Easter Lenten season and the Passion Week during a tour of the interiors of the log cabins .

As part of the accompanying programme, on Good Friday (18 April) there will be a tour by boys from the Vysočánek children’s folklore ensemble, who will have rattles and rattles with them. On White Saturday (19 April) visitors can look forward to organ music in the chapel in Veselý Kopec, played by Mr Josef Pešava from Trhová Kamenice.

velikonoce vysočinaEaster Sunday (20 April) will be made more enjoyable by a performance of the folklore group Podjavořičan from Telč, and visitors can look forward to a demonstration of Judas leading performed by a group of boys from Slepotice. Yiddish driving, which can still be found in the villages between Holice, Hrochovy Tynec, Chrastí, Luží and Vysoký Mýto, comes from ancient traditions and is one of the few preserved customs observed by children. This tradition has been preserved continuously since at least the end of the 19th century and has been entered on the List of Intangible Assets of Traditional Folk Culture of the Pardubice Region and later on the List of Intangible Assets of Traditional Folk Culture of the Czech Republic. Easter Monday (21 April) will focus on demonstrations of children’s spring games and the traditional game of egg rolling. The Veselý Kopec area will be open every day from 9:30 to 16:00.

Easter in Bethlehem

During the whole month (from 1 to 27 April) you can discover traditional customs and traditions associated with Easter and the spring season in the Bethlehem Monument Reserve . Guided tours on this theme are available for visitors. On White Saturday (19 April), a workshop will be held on decorating Easter eggs and knitting pom poms. Bethlehem in Hlinsko will be open daily except Mondays from 9:00 to 16:00. On Easter Monday, 21 April, it will be open from 12:30 to 16:00.

The Haná open-air museum will come alive on White Saturday

hanácké muzeumOn White Saturday, the grounds of the Haná Museum in Nature in Příkazy, near Olomouc, will also wake up. The event, aptly named “Haná Easter”, will take place on Saturday 19 April and will offer visitors a glimpse of traditional Easter and spring customs. Those interested can try their hand at weaving a pomlázka, decorate an egg, taste traditional Easter pastries or make their own wicker baskets. Throughout the day, there will be a small Easter fair and a costume selection advice session on the museum grounds. Easter games will be organised for children, not only with eggs. At 14:00 there will be an Easter performance by children from the local primary school. The museum will be open from 10:00 to 16:00 on the day of the programme.

Customs and traditions in the Rožnov Wallachian Open Air Museum

A rich three-day programme showing traditional Easter customs can be visited in the last part of the National Open Air Museum, specifically in the Wallachian Open Air Museum in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. The Easter programme starts on Saturday 19 April with a traditional Easter goods fair. The whole day will be made more enjoyable by the music of the Aldamáš and Jiří Nechanický dulcimer musicians, the children’s folklore ensemble Jarášek and in the Church of St. Anne visitors can enjoy a dramatisation of the events of the last days of Jesus Christ. The tomb of God from Nový Hrozenkov with its unique glass decoration, which is part of the museum’s collection, will also be on display.

On Sunday, Easter Sunday, visitors will have the opportunity to watch a programme focused on spring and Easter customs performed by the Radhošt’ ensemble. Spring soup will be prepared in Bill’s cottage and visitors will take part in egg painting. They will also see the rounds of the rapiers. Easter (Red) Monday will be marked by pomlažka (pommel horse ). Visitors will be treated to music by the Soláň and Radegast dulcimer ensembles and the Ševčík folklore ensemble. Visitors can enjoy the art of little girls who will demonstrate various techniques of decorating Easter eggs. The days will also be enriched by traditional pomlazek knitting, a rich offer of products of folk craftsmen and a creative workshop for children.
