Top Ice Hockey Stars from Around the Globe Set to Converge in České Budějovice!

Historic Premiere of the Championship
The Women’s Ice Hockey World Championship will take place in Czechia for the very first time, from April 9 to 20, 2025. This tournament will showcase the world’s top teams, with the Czech players competing against Switzerland, the USA, Finland, and Canada in Group A. Excitingly, all home games are already sold out! Fans can eagerly anticipate not only the thrilling matches but also a variety of activities happening around the city. This championship presents a fantastic opportunity to promote both the Czech Republic and the South Bohemian Region. Last year, the championship occurred in Utica, USA, where Canada claimed the gold, while the Czech team finished fourth.
“This event is not just about sports; it holds significant economic benefits both during and after the championship. Drawing from past experiences and similar events, like the Ice Hockey World Championship 2024 hosted by Czechia, we can predict that, even though this is the first time for Czechia, it could positively impact domestic tourism, particularly in the region. We expect fans from various nationalities to flock to České Budějovice,” shares František Reismüller, Director of the Czech Tourist Authority – CzechTourism. He continues, “This championship also offers a unique chance to showcase the region’s beauty and Czechia in a different light. Unlike traditional marketing, it combines a sporting adventure with the discovery of new places that visitors to the World Championships might not explore otherwise.”
Sport as a Boost to Local Economies
International visitors typically stay for several days as their national teams participate in multiple matches during the championship. As the Women’s Ice Hockey World Championship approaches, there’s an increase in demand for accommodations and other travel-related services, including dining options. This event is undoubtedly a tremendous opportunity for local businesses, which stand to benefit from the high attendance. The broader the international audience and the more visitors, the more it benefits hotels, restaurants, cafes, and similar establishments.
It’s important to note that accommodations and dining services cater not only to fans but also to players, team members, referees, and even foreign journalists. National teams usually arrive several days before the championship begins, and their length of stay depends on how well they perform in the tournament.
Hotel Occupancy Continues to Rise
Currently, hotel occupancy in České Budějovice ranges from 75% to 90% during the Women’s World Cup 2025, according to CzechTourism. Family-run guesthouses are also gradually filling up, and visitor demand is increasing, with operators accepting new bookings daily.
“The tournament coinciding with Easter, when people are looking for a long weekend getaway, also boosts accommodation occupancy. We can confidently say that the 2025 Women’s World Cup is a significant driver of visitor numbers in the region this April,” adds Petr Janeček, Head of the Institute of Tourism.
