Zoo Prague Launches Its 94th Season! Discover the Exciting New Arctic and Tree Lobsters

Zoo Prague ArcticThe celebration for the beginning of the 94th season at Zoo Prague will kick off at 11:00 hours, with the laying of the foundation stone for the new exhibit called Arctic. This event will take place near the statue of Snow White, the first polar bear cub successfully bred in captivity, close to the Gochar’s home. On an impressive stone base, there will be an ice cube containing frozen polar bears that guests can take home. Each bear will have a hidden chip inside, which will later act as a ticket for the next visit to Zoo Prague for the lucky taker.

Additionally, music lover will be pleased to know that singer-songwriter Michal Horák will perform at 10:40, officially starting the festivities.

Zoo PragueIn a remarkable showcase, Zoo Prague will also unveil the world’s largest non-flying insect, known as the lobster scarecrow, at 13:00. These unique creatures, affectionately called “tree lobsters“, can grow up to 15 inches long and were once believed to be completely extinct for many years. The astonishing rediscovery of a few of these insects on an isolated rock in the South Pacific, called Ball’s Pyramid, caused quite a stir in the scientific community. Visitors will get to hear fascinating insights about the challenges of breeding this extraordinary insect from expert breeder Vojtěch Víta. The opening of the new Ball’s Pyramid exhibition near the Bororo Reservation will feature a performance by the band Laura and her tigers, starting at 12:50.

On Saturday, the beloved summer guided feedings and animal encounters will return. After the long winter, visitors will enjoy seeing meerkats, lemurs, and the much-admired veterinary training sessions with South African sea lions. The schedule for these events is available on the Zoo Prague mobile app. Additionally, the zoo has organized a wide array of activities for kids, ensuring a fun-filled day for everyone, including face painting available from 9:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at the Gočár Houses and the Bororo Reservation. Guests will also find an Arctic game station located at the polar bear area, and a themed program about Lord Howe’s Island will complement the spooky theme of the scarecrow lobsters at the Ball Pyramid.
