Get Ready for Prague’s Vibrant Easter Markets Opening April 5 – Discover What Awaits!

The Easter markets in Prague’s Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square are set to officially kick off on Saturday, April 5, and will continue until Sunday, April 27.

This year, the city center will once again be transformed into a vibrant spring marketplace, showcasing traditional Czech Easter decorations, handmade crafts, and seasonal delicacies.

“In smaller planting boxes, we will place birch trees that are two-and-a-half to three meters tall, which should be budding already. These trees will be beautifully adorned with colorful eggs and classic ribbons. In larger boxes, we’ll showcase a variety of flowers, including pansies, daffodils, tulips, and hyacinths,” detailed decoration coordinator Tatiana Vomáčková.

Another exciting addition this year is the Easter gate, which will be situated near Železná Street and will serve as a symbolic entrance to the bustling markets.

“This gate will frame the picturesque view of Old Town Square and will visually define the market space,” said Eva Poláčková, the executive director of Decoled, the company in charge of the market decorations. Additionally, there will be Easter photo spots for visitors to capture memorable moments.

One Kilometer of Easter Garlands and Interactive Art Boards

The festive decorations will spread throughout the markets, featuring one kilometer of beautifully crafted wicker garlands on the stalls in Old Town Square and another 300 meters adorning Wenceslas Square.

A new interactive feature will be available for guests behind the Jan Hus statue, where visitors can use chalk to create artwork on themed boards that showcase Easter symbols such as eggs, hares, and chicks. Helpers dressed in traditional folk attire will be on hand to distribute chalk and assist visitors in bringing their artistic visions to life.

500 Performers and Cultural Entertainment

A diverse cultural program will accompany the Easter markets, featuring performances on two main stages—one located in Old Town Square and the other in Wenceslas Square. More than 500 adult performers along with nearly 1,000 children will participate in ethnographic and folkloric displays, keep the music of the cimbalom alive, and offer brass band concerts, theatrical performances, as well as children’s singing and dance groups.

“This year’s workshops for children will be even more varied,” said Simona Čermáková, the market program manager. A special intergenerational workshop run by the non-profit organization Mezi námi o.p.s. will allow grandmothers to lead engaging creative activities with children.

Over 100 Market Stalls Offering Seasonal Goods

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of products at 71 market stalls (including three charity stands) in Old Town Square, as well as 32 stalls in Wenceslas Square.

Vendors will present an array of Easter gifts, handcrafted items, traditional Czech treats, and refreshments. The stalls will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
