On both Saturday and Sunday, visitors can take advantage of a walking route leading to the almond orchards, available from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This route extends 4 kilometers and is stroller-friendly. Along the way to the almond orchards, you’ll encounter representatives from local associations who will offer snacks and resting spots. There will also be activities planned for children. If you climb up the lookout tower, you can indulge in unique appetizers featuring pickled Hustopeč almonds, almond pâtés, various almond treats, almond lemonade, and much more.
Hustopeče – The Town of Wine and Almonds
The festival is purposely timed to coincide with the period when the almond trees are typically in full bloom. There are about 1,200 almond trees in the area, which are considered a natural wonder in Central Europe. These trees were planted after 1948 to serve the state chocolate factories. After the revolution, interest in the Hustopeče almonds declined, and many orchards fell into neglect. However, a movement to revive the almond orchards was started by students from the primary school in Hustopeče several years ago, and this initiative has gained support from both the town and its residents. As a result, Hustopeče is reclaiming its heritage and reintroducing itself to visitors as a charming town filled with wine and almond trees.
