Prague’s Beer Prices Surge: What You Need to Know!

This article highlights Pilsner Urquell beer at four popular dining spots: U Pinkasů, U Vejvodů, U Glaubiců, and Lokál U Bílé Kuželky.

These establishments are loved not only by visitors from abroad but also by the local crowd.

While the prices of beer at both U Vejvodů and U Glaubiců have remained stable compared to last year, Lokál U Bílé Kuželky—which is conveniently situated near the Charles Bridge—has increased its half-liter draft Pilsner Urquell price by five crowns.

On the other hand, the historic U Pinkasů pub, located across the Vltava River, has seen an even larger hike of seven crowns per pint.

“The current price for a 0.47-liter glass of Pilsner Urquell is now 79 CZK. We made this adjustment in May 2024 in response to supplier price increases, soaring operational costs, rising energy expenses, inflation, and salary hikes,” explained František Novotný, the director of U Pinkasů.

Restaurant manager Štěpán Bunzák added that the price increases are also affected by changes in VAT.

Where Can You Find the Most Affordable Pilsner?

At Lokál U Bílé Kuželky, a half-liter of Pilsner Urquell is currently priced at 69 CZK. Nevertheless, the most budget-friendly option among the four pubs is at U Glaubiců, where a half-liter remains at 49 CZK—holding steady since last year.

In a similar vein, U Vejvodů still retails Pilsner Urquell for 57.90 CZK.

Is Another Price Increase on the Horizon?

Many bar owners nationwide are now on alert, eager to see if Plzeňský Prazdroj, the brewery responsible for Pilsner Urquell, will raise its prices again this autumn.

Plzeňský Prazdroj last adjusted its prices in October 2023, but no further increases have occurred since then—for both bottled and draft beer. It is important to note that the final prices at restaurants and storefronts are ultimately set by individual vendors.

“If there have been price hikes at some bars since the autumn of 2023, it is not due to Prazdroj’s adjustments,” clarified Zdeněk Kovář, the brewery spokesperson.
