Prague’s Farmers’ Markets Are Back!

What’s Your Budget for Fresh Finds This Season?

Spring has come to Prague, bringing with it the delightful return of farmers’ markets throughout the city. These markets, famous for their fresh local produce, handcrafted items, and artisanal specialties, are excited to welcome visitors back once more.

One of the earliest markets to open this year was the Budějovická Farmers’ Market, which commenced on Tuesday, February 25. This market will be open every Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., conveniently located above the entrance to the Budějovická metro station. On the first day alone, around ten stalls were already welcoming customers.

At the market, visitors can find a variety of traditional farm-fresh products as well as specialty meats from local butchers. Here’s a snapshot of this year’s prices:

  • Jitrnice or jelita (blood sausages): 27 CZK per 100 grams
  • Pork shoulder: 35 CZK per 100 grams
  • Sausages: 42 CZK per 100 grams
  • Smoked sausages: 47 CZK per 100 grams

In addition, there are fresh eggs from free-range farms available (Medium size: 7 CZK each, Large size: 8 CZK), as well as delicious pastries like vanilla cream donuts (45 CZK), poppy seed bread (25 CZK), and larger loaves, including light buttermilk bread (72 CZK for 500g) and whole-grain walnut bread (90 CZK for 320g).

The Kulaťák Farmers’ Market Returned on March 1

Another highly anticipated market is the Kulaťák Farmers’ Market at Vítězné náměstí in Dejvice, which resumed operations on Saturday, March 1. Now in its 16th successful season, the market will be open every Saturday through December 20.

Shoppers can browse a range of seasonal fruits and vegetables, honey, dairy products, meats, sausages, eggs, pastries, prepared meals, herbs, spices, and refreshing drinks.

The organizers are also advocating for environmentally friendly practices, urging the use of reusable containers and proper waste sorting. Furthermore, the city district encourages attendees to travel on foot, by bike, or via public transport.

Jiřího z Poděbrad Market Opens on March 19

Another major market, the Jiřího z Poděbrad (Jiřák) Farmers’ Market, will officially reopen its doors on Wednesday, March 19, starting at 8:00 a.m. This year marks its 13th season, and it will return to its original spot in front of the school on Slavíkova Street.

Despite ongoing revitalization efforts at Jiřího z Poděbrad Square, shoppers can expect the market to operate without any interruptions.
